Les Quatre Saisons
Rose-gold frames, yellow-gold flowers and wishes for a life well lived. Les Quatre Saisons brings together openwork botanical panels and Chinese characters in a substantial 75.95g bracelet of 18ct gold.
From Vietnam to America to Australia
According to the family history shared with us, this bracelet was purchased by a United States Air Force lieutenant colonel during the Vietnam War and brought back to the United States. It later came into the collection of Les Trésors de Victoire in Australia.
A personal keepsake from that journey, it now has a place in our collection alongside its 1979 appraisal. The document provides a dated record of the bracelet; its wartime acquisition is part of the family account.
Chosen as a centrepiece for Les Trésors de Victoire, it rewards a closer look: the polished borders give each panel definition, while the raised motifs and textured medallions catch the light differently as the bracelet moves.

A bracelet of good wishes
The lettering is part of the ornament’s meaning. Two characters are clearly legible in the photographs: 祿 (lù), associated with prosperity, rank and success, and 康 (kāng), meaning health and well-being. They express wishes for the wearer rather than a maker’s signature.
The bracelet was catalogued as Vietnamese, with a Four Seasons design and characters associated with wealth, longevity and harmony. Its Chinese lettering belongs to a broader East Asian decorative vocabulary; the script alone does not establish where a piece was made.
The Four Seasons
In Chinese decorative art, seasonal plants can carry a second meaning beyond their flowers and leaves. One established grouping pairs orchid with spring, bamboo with summer, chrysanthemum with autumn and plum blossom with winter. Together, these plants evoke the passing year and qualities such as perseverance, modesty and integrity.
This tradition gives context to the bracelet’s name and botanical decoration. The available photographs do not show every panel clearly enough to identify the full floral sequence or transcribe every character.
The original 1979 valuation
Judd Jewelers, 26 March 1979. The document records an 18-karat gold bracelet with eight hinged sections, each 26mm wide and 23mm long, and a weight of 76g. The current recorded weight is 75.95g.
Its estimated replacement cost, including tax, was $1,325 at the time. This historical figure is not the original purchase price or a current valuation.

Craft & condition
Linked rectangular panels create the broad, articulated form. Warm rose-gold borders surround yellow-gold openwork, with floral shapes alternating with circular character medallions. A clasp and safety chain complete the bracelet.
Personally inspected and selected for our collection, the bracelet is in excellent vintage condition. Its maker and precise production date have not been established. The appraisal documents the bracelet by March 1979.
